Cabaret night at Shenango

To celebrate National Assisted Living week, we here at Juniper Shenango decided to have a cabaret night for our residents. The tables were dressed in black table cloths with white floral arrangements that our residents had made as the center pieces. Wine spritzers along with cheese, pepperoni and crackers were served in our nightclub atmosphere. Jerry Cramer played jazz melodies that delighted the crowd.

Life is full of beauty

Every month the ladies of Juniper Village at the Shenango Inn enjoy an afternoon of pampering. As the sounds of nature fill the community room, the smell of  aromatherpy relaxes the mind, our Juniper ladies get a chance to sit back and enjoy a little bit of an indulgence. Manicures, pedicures and massage therapy are just a few of the monthly beauty treats. Because everyone deserves to feel beautiful we pay tribute to these special ladies!

Here Comes the Bride...

It was a night of memories and fun as Juniper Village at the Shenango Inn hosted its first Bridal Show on June 28th.

Employees and friends modeled their own gowns and gowns dating back to 1950, which were donated by Jan’s costumes of Sharpsville, PA. As the models walked the runway, pianist Eileen Merritt filled the room with beautiful piano melodies of love and romance.

Resident couples Mr. &Mrs Baldinelli,Mr. & Mrs. Onyszcak, and Mr. & Mrs. Brown were honored as the residents enjoyed wedding cupcakes and punch and a time of reminiscing of weddings and receptions of the past.

Janet Searle....in Jail???

Yep, you read the title right!  Our very own Wellness Director, Janet Searle spent a little time in the slammer, but for reasons of doing good deeds in the community...not bad. Janet raised over a $1,000 for our local MDA chapter!
Because of her support and the support of others, MDA is able to continually provide help & hope to hundreds of thousands of children and adults living with neuromuscular disease. Donations from the Lock-Up will support local families and guarantee that MDA can continue its mission to find treatments and cures, as well as provide vital services.
So, a Big THANK YOU goes out to Janet for supporting a great cause...your family here at Juniper Village is proud of you!

Let well being thrive with a healthy start to your day!

Leslie from Area Agency on Aging
Juniper Village at the Shenango was at it again with their breakfast in a bag event for the community.  Every year the residents help put together a healthy breakfast to pass out to the Shenango Valley as their way of staying connected within the community and also as a way of thanks.  This years breakfast included yogurt, granola, fresh fruit, orange juice and a few Juniper Village logo items. Approximately 65 people passed through on their way to work on June 1st from 7:30 to 9:00am.

Mother's Day Tea - A Mother's Journey

Love and life come together to form the bond of Motherhood which is celebrated in the rich history of our community at The Shenango Inn. Mother’s
and families sharing together, stories and laughter (and some tears of joy as well). Classic tea settings promoting the beauty of Spring with a room awash
in pink and purple provided the perfect ambiance for a heartfelt moment between Mother’s and their daughters, sons, grandchildren and friends. Blessed with a sunny day, which was rare considering the amount of rain we had been experiencing, allowed for a beautiful commencement to the afternoon.

We honor Oma's Birthday in April ~

On April 6th the staff at Juniper Shenango honored and remembered our founder Lynne Katzmann's grandmother, Oma! Oma was the inspiration for creating Juniper Communities, a company based on a vision of aging that sees us alive in every season of life. Oma ran her own business in the late 1920's, rode a motorcycle in her mid-70's and was always ready to share laughter, wisdom and sheer love of life.

We invite you to come and experience Juniper Shenango, a place where our people nurture the spirit of life, where our programs encourage active bodies, engaged minds and fulfilled spirits.

Valentine's Day Balloon Bouquet Fundraiser

Love filled the air at Juniper Village at Shenango Inn...as it often does.  But this particular day was special not only because it was Valentine's Day, but it was our second annual Balloon Bouquet Blow Up fundraiser for the Alzheimer's Association. Balloon Bouquets ranged in prices from $6.00 to $15.00.  All bouquets came with both foil and latex balloons plus chocolate filled goodie bags.  Some came with adorable stuffed animals and Juniper Village logo mugs. This year we raised $360 that will go directly to the research and continuing education to end this devastating disease.  A big thank you to all that came and showed your support!

A Star is Born...

It was a typical Monday in January at the Shenango Inn, filled with daily exercise, colorful culture, brain builders, spiritual words and of course a dose of musical entertainment, featuring acoustic guitarist and vocalist, Dave Poling. But this day soon proved to be no “ordinary” day when a beautiful, melodious gem was uncovered by all who watched. Flossy Uhrey, known as a sweet, yet soft spoken resident of the Shenango Inn became a STAR on this day as she sang her little heart out while being accompanied by an acoustic guitar. This “melodious gem” as we call her (Flossy), participates in most of the activities scheduled at the Shenango Inn, but often times never makes a peep. Connections Director, Brittany Onufrak stated, “It was such a beautiful surprise to hear such talent radiating out of this tiny woman!”

The singing sensation truly was discovered at the Shenango Inn’s first Christmas choir rehearsal in early December. As Connections Director, Brittany Onufrak began the rehearsal she was surprised and delighted to hear such intricate harmonies coming from Flossy’s mouth as the residents progressed through each song of the rehearsal. Bob Heim, a musician and husband to resident, Lawanda Heim, had noticed the terrific talent as Brittany Onufrak was conducting a duet rehearsal between residents, Bill Conner and Eleanore Haller. Once the melodious sounds were heard, we knew we needed to amplify this little voice for all to hear!

During our regular entertainment session, provided by Dave Poling, Flossy was brought into the middle of the activities room to sing in front of the microphone so everyone could enjoy her beautiful voice. She sang songs such as: A Closer Walk with Thee, You are my Sunshine and Amazing Grace. With each song her voice got bigger and brighter and more beautiful than ever and soon enough all of the staff and residents of the Shenango Inn gathered around to see who was producing such glorious music. Tears of joy and happiness were shared by many on this day, while chills of amazement struck many as well.

When asked how she felt singing in front of such a grand audience, Flossy giggled with excitement and said, “It feels good, honey!” It was a special day to see such a STAR come alive at the Shenango Inn!
