Annual Fall Ball 2012
It's a tradition around Juniper Village every fall season to see the ladies dress in beautiful gowns and our gentlemen in suits with ties, as it only happens once a year...our annual Fall Ball. A celebration for our residents and their families, a homecoming type dance with a royal court of course! This year we congratulated our Queen Peg Patton and King Joe Sember along with their court members Deloris Masters and Harold Bottenfield. A thank you to all the families that attended.

Every Monday morning, Meg instructs her very own, "noodle" exercise. Meg teaches water aquatic exercise and has incorporated what she teaches in the water...to an exercise class on dry land! Set to Hawaiian music, the noodle exercise is not only relaxing, but improves range of motion and circulation. Stop in each and every Monday morning at 10am and make your own splash for the day!

Staying Hydrated
Staying hydrated daily is very important, especially in the warm summer months. Juniper Village welcomed Kelsey Ferlin - a Pre Med student at the University of Pittsburgh, who is volunteering this summer at the Shenango Inn. Kelsey is helping to educate the residents on important topics valuable to seniors. This month she brought us knowledge on staying hydrated. It is important to drink 1/2 cup a water every 15 minutes, a fact that no one that attended knew! Most of us only drink water to take medication, but this is not enough! Eight to ten glasses a day is recommended. So drink up and stay hydrated!

Getting ready to party ourselves into shape!
And how are we going about doing that you may ask?? Through an exhilarating, effective, easy-to-follow fitness program called Zumba!
Zumba is a fitness program that combines Latin music and easy-to-follow dance moves. Not to mention it is excellent for mind, body and spirit! We are very fortunate to have Kelly from Heartland Hospice join us monthly for a fun way to get heart healthy. Juniper Zumba fans say," it's so popular here because Zumba is a fun way to work out!" And we couldn't agree more.

Welcome Spring
The residents and their families enjoyed welcoming spring at our latest family dinner celebration. The smooth sounds of jazz delighted the dining room as everyone enjoyed the delicious beef wellington that our Chef Rick prepared. One family member stated, " Give your chef a pat on the back for the wonderful dinner!" It is always so nice that everyone could join us for another memorable event. Welcome Spring!

It's Never Too Late to Learn
This month at Juniper Village, Debbie from Lifelong Learning has joined us to teach and enhance our painting abilities as we explore creative expression. Debbie brought watercolors for us to try our hand at. Watercolor painting is an art form that creates artistic representations, usually on paper, using pigments that are water-soluble. This month we learned how to paint a waterfall, which is perfect to look at in these cold winter months! Our residents really enjoyed painting with watercolor and look forward to next months lesson. A BIG thank you to Debbie from Lifelong Learning!

Once upon a time...
Alyse Barr, a community member of Juniper Village at the Shenango Inn, recently spent time at Musser Elementary reading holiday stories to a group of kindergarten children in anticipation of their winter break. Often times our residents have the opportunity to volunteer in our community and this is just one of the many times that our people have made a small difference in the lives of others.
